Skype is owned by Microsoft, which offers Microsoft Teams as part of its Office 365 package. It is possible, therefore, to log in and see all of your old Skype messages in Microsoft Teams (Free).
It’s a good idea to do this as soon as possible so that your data is safe when Skype shuts down. Microsoft says that this process will happen automatically, but I suggest making sure by following the process below.
First, visit https://teams.live.com/v2/ (Free) and https://teams.microsoft.com/v2/ (Paid) and sign out of both:
Click this link to get early access to the migration tool via Teams Insider:
Click Continue on this browser and it’ll take you to a login screen:
Enter your Skype username and click Next, enter your Skype password and click Next again:
You should then be offered the opportunity to merge your Skype chats into Teams - I used an existing Microsoft account but I assume you can create a new one if needed:
From here, it should hopefully be quite self-explanatory, and you should end up with your Skype chats and contacts in Teams, where it will safely remain after Skype is deactivated:
